Perrier-Jouët Chef-In-Residence

Since its founding in 1811 by Pierre Nicolas Marie Perrier and his wife Rose Adélaïde Jouët, Perrier-Jouët Champagne has earned a reputation for producing champagnes of superb finesse and elegance that are highly appreciated in gastronomy. As part of its bicentennial celebration this year, Perrier-Jouët launched the Perrier-Jouët Chef-In-Residence concept, making its international debut in Singapore.

This new dining concept was inspired by the exclusive dining experience at Perrier-Jouët’s Maison Belle Époque, the private guesthouse located in Épernay, the heart of Champagne. It is there that guests are treated to an exquisite meal in the dining room overlooking the garden, by Perrier-Jouët’s exceptional chefs in residence. The dining experience reflects the refinement and elegance of Perrier-Jouët, with each course paired with a glass of champagne.

The Chef-In-Residence concept is about bringing the Maison Belle Époque dining experience into private residences, where a “chef in residence” will create an exquisite meal paired with Perrier-Jouët’s champagnes. The private residence will also be transformed into a garden setting, inspired by Perrier-Jouët’s floral theme.

For the inaugural Perrier-Jouët Chef-In-Residence experience, Perrier-Jouët invited Elena Iwatake to host an intimate dinner for her friends (I was one of the lucky guests). Well-known in society for her love of champagnes and hosting some of the most amazing dinner parties, she graciously opened up her home for this exclusive dinner.

Elena’s dining area was magically transformed into a fantasy garden, complete with grass on the dining table and on the floor.

White anemones and butterflies took centre stage for the table décor, where beautiful Perrier-Jouët champagne flutes adorned with the famous motifs of Japanese anemones designed by Art Nouveau artist Émile Gallé were used to enhance the wine and dine experience.

Championing modern Singaporean or Mod Sin cuisine is Chef Willin Low of the famed Wild Rocket restaurant, making him the perfect candidate to lead the way for Perrier-Jouët Chef-In-Residence concept.

He conjured up an outstanding menu with touches of Singapore flavours that brings to life the aromas of each of the Perrier-Jouët champagne, from the legendary Grand Brut to the prestigious Belle Époque Cuvées. The dishes he created for the dinner are now featured in the new menu at Wild Rocket, so you can pop by the restaurant should you wish to do your own pairing with your BYO bottle of Perrier-Jouët champagne.
